ABOUT ME

Welcome to Lorikeet Counselling!

My name is Lyndel and Rainbow Lorikeets have a special meaning for me. I grew up in the Gold Coast, Australia and moved to Calgary, Canada 13 yrs ago. My childhood home had Rubber trees out beside the front deck and the fruit is a favorite of Rainbow Lorikeets. Every afternoon, this colorful and noisy cloud of birds would descend on our front verandah and feast on the fruit of the Rubber trees. The silence when they left was so peaceful, but I looked forward to these colorful characters everyday. I remember wishing I could be one of those birds and fly away from the stress of my life. Every bird had their own unique personality. And in Dreamtime culture, Rainbow Lorikeets are a bird of transformation. So, as someone who has been through therapy myself and transformed, when it came time to name my counselling business, I remembered my Australian culture and heritage and those amazing birds that bought so much beauty.

I want to acknowledge that I grew up on the unceded lands of the Yugambeh people, whose territory stretched from the Logan River South to the Tweed River and West to Beaudesert.  In the spirit of reconciliation, I acknowledge that I live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the îethka Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, Goodstoney), the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (Districts 5 and 6), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

My approach is unique, for those who may have had a less than stellar experience with therapy or for those who may be a little nervous about seeking help. I believe in making therapy accessible, comfortable, and effective.

I'm the therapist for people who don't like therapists! I know that no two people are the same, so my approach is tailored to your unique situation and needs.

In a world where there are few safe places and people, I can be that safe place and person for you.
